geological context

**(**behind Riverview Inn, 795 Sandy Bay Road).

Charles Darwin hiked up this hill (Porter Hill) in 1836. A large dumping of Permian-aged boulders occurs at the top of Pauldon Drive. The fossil-rich boulders contain (mainly) brachiopods (ancient bivalve shells) and imprints of Bryozoa (ancient moss/lace-like invertebrates a bit like corals), and some (fewer) gastropods (snail shells) and pelecypods (scallop-like shells).
